How to get the FULL page url as string

I have thought of a solution to my below post. Basically I need to be able to get the full url of a page as a string variable.

$PHP_SELF only gives the file relative to root.

Is there a way of getting the full URL as written in the refering link, including variables and encoded charactors?

$PHP_SELF?HTTP_ENV_VARS["QUERY_STRING"]

Thsi will give you the path and the query string.

Oops.. Forgot $

$PHP_SELF?$HTTP_ENV_VARS["QUERY_STRING"]

Actually, Derek, this still won't provide you with the FULL URL.

There is no hostname being included in your example, nor is there a $HTTP_ENV_VARS[QUERY_STRING] (at least not in PHP4.0.3p1).

Try:

$url = 'http://' . $HTTP_HOST . '/' . $PHP_SELF . '?' . $HTTP_SERVER_VARS[QUERY_STRING];

$url = 'http://' . $SERVER_NAME . ':' . $SERVER_PORT . '/' . $REQUEST_URI;

or any combination of the above.
