include files and speed performance

Hi !

I learned (through experience) that when php projects tend to get huge, it's always best to make it modular... like have an include file for

1. your database configurations,
2. header and footer templates,
3. some common functions used by several pages
4. creating forms, admin, utilities etc...

This is all cool, but then I started to wonder whether the performance of my pages will suffer if I have more include files per page ?

Would my loading time be negligible or change drastic let's say if I had a page which had 3 includes as opposed to 7 includes ?

arrrghhh... I hate performance issues...

I am a big fan of includes, and I will use include() extensively. But in my experience, I have never had too big of an issue with slowdowns (fast hard drives help 😉. However, I would recommend that you don't use an excessive number of includes as much as possible. Organization may get difficult especially with variables, etc if you don't do it right. Too many won't hurt the server, but might hurt you. Hope this gives you some idea...
