parse ms wordfiles on linux

Hi!
I want to parse .doc files and insert the parsed lines into an existing wordfile, that is also stored on my harddisk.
Is this possible using PHP?
Can somebody give me a hint how to do this?

I believe you are referring to the 'holy grail' of network computing.

Microsoft is VERY DEFENSIVE about their MS word document format.

There ARE a couple of options that I know of, though.

1) Tell your MS Word users to 'save as text'.

2) Tell them to 'save as HTML' and deal with that.

3) Use a more standards compliant word processor.
