date formatting (mysql->php)

Hi All,
I read through some of the older posts that were similar to my question, and tried their suggestions (there weren't many) to no avail, so I was hoping someone could help. What I'm trying to do, is to take a DATE() from MySQL in YYYY-MM-DD format, and show it on the web page as "Weekday, Month Day, Year"

In addition to that, I'm also trying to take a TIMESTAMP(10) (YYMMDDhhmm) from MySQL and show that in a nice format as well, along the lines of "MM/DD/YY, hh:mm".

Another question, that I'm not necessarily looking for an answer for, but just thought I'd throw out in case someone has a quick answer. Is there a way to do the reverse of my first question? That is take "Weekday, Month Day, Year" on a PHP form to submit into a database, and convert that into YYYY-MM-DD format? Like I said, that's not as important to me, just thought I'd ask anyway.

But if anyone can help on either of the first two problems, I would be highly appreciative. I know some of this stuff may be in older threads, but they're older, and any questions I have, I can't easily append to the threads and get an answer.

Use my function.... it will work if only you send in the date in "YYYY-DD-MM" format

Add to it what you need to format the time, basically just get the other array values and place them in the first three prams of the mktime func.....

or use the MySQL DATE_FORMAT() function to format the date as you pull it out of the DB - see the mysql documentation.

Don't know about TIMESTAMPs - I don't use them!

Thanks Alan & Neville. I tried the DATE_FORMATting thing, but I must have been doing it wrong. I can get it to work now in MySQL, now I just have to try it in PHP.

Neville, I've got your function copied and pasted into a test file, I'll try it out when I get a chance. Thanks guys!! 🙂

Hey, I'm trying to set it up to display in a table for orders (using the MySQL DATE_FORMAT) and I can't get it to work, It just displays "Resource#4" instead of the date.. if you get it to work in PHP please let me know
