tracking clicks

I have posted about this once before, but the response I got was well, not very functional for my needs. Here's the deal. I am trying to track ad clicks from banners I have on my site. But these are banners that I have from an affiliate program like Linkshare and they cannot be altered. How can I serve these banners, track impressions and clicks, but not alter the code provided by my affiliate company?

Here is an option. A site that I just completed is using ads from commission junction. The owner of the site is able to go through commission junction and choose the ads he wishes to see on his page then download the code.

I created a table in the sites db and we enter the html for those ads into the db. I then can randomly call ads from the db and keep track of the clicks by adding a field that acts as a counter.

If you are able to choose the ads and download the code for them with the ad provider you are with, this will work fine. Otherwise, I agree that it sounds like an javascript issue.

now that sounds like a solution! 🙂 I figured I had to use a database to store my ad html, which makes it easy to count impressions as they are retrieved, but the actually couting the click is what's getting to me. Would you mind explaining a bit more in detail of this field that acts as the counter? how do you ad it to the code so that it doesn't obstruct the code functioning? are you passing the script through a redirect page of sometype? any info u could give me to help solve this enigma would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance
