spaces within string

Does anyone know why the following occurs?

A field, called txtFullname, within a form as the value 'SMITH--JONES-E' where - represents one space. When I call that field by $txtFullname, somehow the value is 'SMITH-JONES-E'. There is now only one space between SMITH and JONES, whereas the original value has two spaces.

If you are displaying the fild in HTML well, that's your problem. HTML condenses whitespace (spaces/tabs) into one 'space' regardless of how many spaces you put in.

You get to use <PRE></PRE> or &nbsp; to get around it.
