Words filtering

I'm a newbie and want to know how to filter words on a messageboard.

I want to replace each bad word with a specific replacement word so if I make a TXT file that contains just this:

cat|dog
mat|chair

...and then someone types in "The cat sat on the mat" to the messageboard, how do I change $message to the value "The dog sat on the chair" ?

I think I need to use arrays but I'm not really sure how, so is there an example of a that does all this and explains what is happening step by step?

It could be a heavy work if your dictionary is too long.

In general use eregi_replace() to replace string1 in a string2.

1. Load the message in a string variable
2. Walk trough your dictionary and issue eregi_replace() for each word1|word2 pair.
3. If your dictionary is relatively short, preload it in an array
4. If not, store in a database
