Printing

Hello I have a form that I need to print when the user clicks the submit button. I have a script that then e-mails the contents of the form to other users and confirms this on the screen for the user.

I can't seem to find documentation to print to the clients default printer.....can anyone help or provide a like to some documentation?

Hi,

If you add a little bit to your form tag you can achieve this, simply add OnSubmit="javascript:print();" into your form tag just like you would have your action="/path/to/cgi/script" in the form tag.

You can use the javascript window.print() function to print the page from which the print() function was called. Use the onLoad() javascript event to call window.print() on the page after the submit and include on the page the finished form ready for printing. This only seems to work on PCs and will prompt the user to choose their printer and click on ok to print. It may work on other platforms with various browsers, but i haven't test this extensively.

It works on Netscape 4.75 on Linux too :-)

Why don't you use:
passthru()
To print directly to any Server print port(Unix or Win).
The Server prints, not the client.

What OS are you using?
What is the main goal in printing? I use to print to specific ports when I build Intranet, E-business, Workflow or EDMS (Eletronic Document Management Systems). Sometimes I need to print to specific departments, or even to a remote TCP/IP printer, and sometimes to the clients' printers. You have to study your project and see what do you really need. My goal is always to build portable systems that works at least in *UNIX and $Windows OS without having to change my code, sometimes only an ini(configuration file).
Please tell me the printing focus of your work, and also the enviroment(PHP version/compilation, WebServer,OS) so I can help you.
