Hi All,

I have a number of websites that I want to list. I also want to create a search tool. Now each website entry should have a keywords table with relevant comma separated words.

How do I create a fast query that searches through the keywords in each website entry and returns the relevant results.

Or is my design approach invalid? if so how would you suggest I design it.

Assuming you're using some form of SQL language, there are 2 approaches:

Ask users to enter the keywords, explode() them into an array. Then use the keywords to build a query similar to the following:

"SELECT website FROM tablename WHERE keywords LIKE %keywordarray%"

where keywordarray is your keywords and is the index. For every keyword add
"OR keywords LIKE %keywordarray%

2)use the FULLTEXT search provided by the later releases of mysql - see mysql.com

Your design is ok for small tables.

If you don't care about listing the "best match" first,
you can simply use the"like" in SQL to match the given word against the keywords.

something like:
SELECT * FROM table WHERE keywords LIKE "%given_word%";

SELECT * FROM table WHERE keywords LIKE "%tree%";
works great but how can i represent by web those results that are asociated to a filename that is an image.
Let me explain:

table
filename
01.jpg
path
/images/01/
keywords
tree cat house black young
if i do a search of cat the result will give me the result of keywords but i wish to see the result with the image 01.jpg.
anyone knows how to do this?.

so how would you create the SQL statement if one users enters two search terms and the other uses three?

how many "OR Like" sections do i add?
