Error creating mysql fields

I use phpmyadmin 2.1.0, Im trying to make a message system for my site. I want the field that holds the messages to have a max characters of (2000). But when I set the field type to TEXT (2000), I get a error every time. Help!

When you set a field to TEXT, you can not set a limit of your own.
TINYTEXT has a max-length of 255 characters.
TEXT 65535 characters
MEDIUMTEXT 16777215 characters
and
LONGTEXT 4294967295 characters.

What you need to do is to check the length of the text in your php-code.
