Help with variable scope

I've been a Cold Fusion programmer for a couple years now and have come to rely on the way it scopes its variables depending on where they come from. For instance, any variables generated by a form come across in the form of "FORM.variablename", similarly URL variables come across as "URL.variablename".

My question is how can I distinquish these variables (URL,FORM,COOKIE, and CGI) from my local variables?

$HTTP_POST_VARS
$HTTP_GET_VARS
$HTTP_SESSION_VARS
$HTTP_SERVER_VARS
$HTTP_COOKIE_VARS

Adding to that,
all these $HTTP*VARS variables are themselves associative arrays

so if you have
<input type="text" name="myfield">

and the method is post
$HTTP_POST_VARS["myfield"] will contain the data from the textfield
