Clearing Search Input Field

Just a quick question-
I have a PHP page that has an input search field. If you input a key word and click search, results from a mySQL database is displayed. If you clear what was inputed above in the search field and enter in another key word and click search, another page opens saying the page can not be found.
This is what appears in the address bar after the first search is completed-

http://webserver.com/search.php?name=1998

Results containing '1998' are displayed fine, but after you enter in another search key word, such as 'loaded'-

http://webserver.com/search.php1998?name=loaded

It appends to the original search and causes an error page to display.
