assigning icons to upload file types

Hi-

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to modify a file upload php based script to assign specified icons to certain file types. So when an audio file is uploaded, the script will detect the file type and assign an audio icon for the file.

Can someone point me to a snippet or something?
