Profanity filters

I was wondering if someone could clue me in on how to write a quick and dirty profanity filter. I just want to take a string and search for curse words with in the string and replace those instances of cursewords with something else, like XXXXX or something

ok, so lets say i want to remove the word "crap from a string,the proper syntax would be

$newstring = str_replace("crap","somenewstring",$somestring);

This should, in theory take the word crap and replace it with "somenewstring".

Is this correct, if not please let me know.

I don't think it will, I've just been messing about with this. Its for a news page, try it...

$news is the variables to be inserted.

$news = str_replace("argh","****",$news);

If you put argh anywhere in the text box with name news, **** gets put into the db instead of each occurence of argh.

If you have problems, I check back fairly often.
