access to external pop mail!! HELP!!!

Hi,

Currently i am develop something that will let users check thier other external POP mail account from my mail server.

So, the first time the users check their external pop account, it will download the entire INBOX to my server db for recording. Is there any solution that I can use to compare whether the mail have been download to my server before? I try to user imap_uid and img_msgno , but it doesnt' show any UNIQUE message id . It only give me the message id according to thier messgae sequence no.

Furthermore, I try to use the imap_header and imap_fetchheader, try to get more informatoin for comparison condition, like message-id or size from it. However, the whole checking and download processing become extreme slow and caused operation time out error.

Any Solution for this????

I thikn i found a solution here. I manually telnet to the pop server in part of my coding to retrieve the UIDL, and store in array. So, I can use this unique UIDL from the server to do comparison with the message_id in my db. If this UIDL found in my db, then it will consider as new messages.
This is what i do, any advise of using this way to compare new mail and old mail is very appreciated.
