vincent, sometimes It seems you scan this forum seeking out any opportunity you can to simply slam people. To what end, perhaps only a trained psychologist could answer corectly.
You responded to this person's question with the reply... "It probably took you longer to post the question than it would have taken you to look it up in the manual." However, it probably took you longer to write that out than it would have to just answer the person's question. Of course in your defense, you did post a link to where this person could find the answer to their question, which I appreciate, but you only did this as a rebuttle, and to prove a point that you could not be proven wrong.
I suspect you didn't know the answer when you first saw it, but instead saw an opportunity to exercise your powers as the self proclaimed phpbuilder.net RTFM Nazi and only produced the link which could help in answering the question only once you were challenged.
Overall, I think this is very unproductive, and for those like myself, who are trying their best to learn PHP, very intimidating. There have been many times when I have come across an issue, read the manual, consulted the documentation and because the manual and documentation leaves a lot to be desired still could not solve the issue.
If the manual and documention were so clearly written and simple to use, and answered everyone's questions, then there would be no need for this forum would there? Clearly though the documentation is not sufficient, and as a result, we have forums like this one, usenet news groups, mailing lists, countless books that line the shelves at our local book stores, and as we all see here on this forum, countless questions from people trying to solve issues and posting questions hoping someone will be able to help them out.
All too often though when someone does post a question, they are met with a very unproductive, intimidating response, either RTFM or something like what you posted to this guy.
I believe we have had this discussion before, and as I mentioned before, if someone was seeking spiritual guidence in their life and approached their respective spiritual authority (priest, rabbi, guru etc), it would simply be unnacceptable for them to reply... RTF (bible, koran, etc). Or if you go to a library and need help in finding a resource you would not expect the librarian to give a you disgusted look and spout LATFCC! (look at the f*&%$# card catalog).
In both of these cases you would expect a little courtesy, and or contructive help. So why is it in this world of OPEN SOURCE software development, does it seem to be so CLOSED DISCUSSION?
