Mysql_connect(?)

I have mysql server running on my windows machine. I need to have my program which is running on a freeserver connect to the mysql database on my machine when I connect to the internet

Assuming that my dynamically assigned IP address is say xxx.xx.xx.xxx which I got thru $REMOTE_ADDR variable i tried to connect to the mysql db on my windows machine from the program running on this freeserver but got an error saying

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to MySQL server on xxx.xx.xx.xxx

What do I need to do to make this happen ?

My guess is that this freeserver doesn't have ODBC set up in order for it to connect to your database.

This may be a wild stab in the dark, though. :-)

My script is a php script and the database on my windows machine is Mysql.... do I need ODBC ? ..... Because with a mysql localhost connect I think I don't

i'm not sure if i understand u right, but just use localhost in the hostname field. ie:

$LinkID=MySQL_Connect("localhost", $username, $password);

I dont know whether you were implying that the database was on a separate server- in that case i think (i am not sure, correct me if i'm wrong) you need to have ODBC, with windows anyway.

if they're on the same (windows) machine, well then i'm not sure 😉
