link to a dynamicly geneated file ??????

hi everybody
PROBLEM:

how can i make a link to a dynamicly
(cached) geneated file.

I know that we should use header(), but even when i red the ducumatation i couldn t do it.

INTRODUCTION:

I would like make a link that sream an mp3 file

This is possible if the link is to an .m3u or a .pls files

the mime of those file is "audio/playlist"

if u edit an m3u file it looks like

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF: (some information here)
"mp3 location here"

i can make an m3u file for each mp3 file i have but i prefere to generate dynamicly

A TRY:

first i made the function that generate the m3u file:

print "#EXTM3U\n";
print "#EXTINF:" . $Information ."\n";
print $Mp3Url ."\n";

I'm not sure what you want to do

but you could use:

Header( Location: $path_to_your_dynamicly_generated_file );

Hi,

I know what you are doing or want to do I use it meself. you could use a simple
include ("somefile.name");

But this simple plops the file right in that spot. I suggets you use a more elegant method ussing file and directory handler functions.

i ll try to expain more

for example we have an mp3 file

step 1

read the information on this file (included in id3 tag)

step 2

if we will make a link to the mp3 file the browser gonna first download it then play it

this solution is not recomended i think

There is a solution that alow us to stream the file thats mean read it in the same time that u download it, this second solution seems to be much better

so to do the streamming we have to link to a file ( like .pls or .m3u )

those file are in fact text files contening information about our mp3 file

we can create a "steaming file for each mp3 file we have but i think its a bad solution specially if u have over 6000 file

so if we make a function that generate the content of this file will be much beter

anyway i wrote this function and it works

step 3

making a link to this file (m3u)

the file shouldn t be created on the server but downlowded directly (or uploaded ) to the vister that clics the link

i understood from the documentation of php that the fonction header() - witch is i think badly documeted - could do it i maybe wrong

please try to help me with this problem

Ok, this is a bit confusing.

Step 1 : read ID TAGS (can be done; but do you need help?)

Step 2 : read through MP3 s ussing data file info (ID TAGS? or another file?)

Step 3 : Then creating a dynamic link to the file that matches the requested info or fits requirment (ie, the song you wanted)

All without having to download the file yourselves.. Can be done.

I suggest (Step 1-3) :

Ok that should be a simple break down of the flow. It's not too much more complicated than that . The ID3 tags are relativly easy to grab as well. I don't want to ruin all the FUN ! So keep working and let us all know

well my prob is in the step 3

Us i said the fonction that generate the m3u file is ready

My problem is the link to this file i don t want it to be created on the server but diretly uploded to the visitor when he clics on the link

so the file do not exist is ll be generated on demand.

the code that i wrote looks like this

fonction readthemp3filesinfo { }
fonction storethemp3sinfoinadatabase { }
fonction CreateaHtmlTableFromTheDatabase { }

the table contain link to the m3u file

the is a part of the table

song |artist | album |

if the visitor clicks on the song "Slide" he ll download a file ( that in fact deosnt exist but ,ll be generated on his demand )

the file ll be for example "slide.m3u" and it ll look like folowing

www.xxxx.com\No Angel\08 - Slide.mp3

again my problem is not to write the file but to upload it to the guy who ll click on the link without creating a this file on my server

Ok, NOW I understand. hmmmm... The only way to transmit this info WITHOUT writing a file on your own server would be to send it through the get or put server command..

I'm not 100% savy or have a absolute working knowledge of .m3u file transmit headers. But I suppose it's posibble to either send it via a get string like
"http://someplace.com\No Angel\08 - Slide.mp3" .. You would need to find the mp3 or streaming media spec for headers.

The only other way I can think of is to do some research on SMIL (SMILE) Streaming Multimedia ..

Last but not least I want to ask WHY do it this way? creating a small temp. file would be a snap AND it would solve your woes.

If the later is not viable for whatever reason. Really look at SMIL and sending the data through the HTML headers OR the URL.

PS: I just had a vision ..lol.. Try sending the file info THROUGH the e-mail! that way you would send the file but not have to write it to the drive, it could be enbedded so THEY had to copy paste or as an attatchment.. AH-HA.. lol, I like puzzles
