Problems with mail()

I have an RedHat6.2, Apache 1.13.17 with PHP 4.0.4pl1.

my sendmail is /usr/sbin/sendmail.

this is well configured in php.ini.

however, when I try to send mails through a form, php doens't give me any errors but e-mails are not sent.

I tryied this with Perl (Formmail) also and the results are the same.

Any ideas?

I have been thinking, maybe the problem could be in the server, regarding failure in resolving my mail server. Were can I check this?

it is a lot easier to use the mail() function.

Description

bool mail (string to, string subject, string message [, string additional_headers])

Mail() automatically mails the message specified in message to the receiver specified in to. Multiple recipients can be specified by putting a comma between each address in to.

Example 1. Sending mail.

mail("[e-mail]", "My Subject", "Line 1\nLine 2\nLine 3");

If a fourth string argument is passed, this string is inserted at the end of the header. This is typically used to add extra headers. Multiple extra headers are separated with a newline.

Example 2. Sending mail with extra headers.

mail("[e-mail]", "the subject", $message,
"From: webmaster@$SERVER_NAME\nReply-To: webmaster@$SERVER_NAME\nX-Mailer: PHP/" . phpversion());

I already tryed that.

I believe I have a problem with resolving hosts.

I have to check resolv.conf and nsswitches.conf
