session confusion

Hi there
I am starting a session and registering ("test") the user then submits a form with one text field ($input).
On the next page (after hitting submit) I say $test=$input; so far so good.
When I echo out $test however it returns '0' insted of the value of $input ?
After looking through the manual and varios books and tutorials I'm resonably certain that I'm doing things correctly (the only confusion being where to start the session, page 1 or 2? I've tried it both ways!) but I can't seem to get it to work.
Can anyone help me?

PS: I'm running apache on windows and have changed the save path correctly)

the session should be started before you try to save anything to the session... however, the session will start as soon as you call session register, so its usually unnecessary to use session start.
something like:
sesssion_register("test");
$test = 'value';
should work...

Thanks paul, bizzare that I should get your post while doing just that!
Do you know why when $test = 'sometext' I dont seem to be able to say $test=$test+"moretext"; ?

you must have a javascript/c background. 🙂when you use + in php it will try to add the two together. thats why you would get a zero.

what you mean is:
$test=$test."moretext";

or the better way would be:
$test.='moretext';
