FTP port settings

I've just about gone blind and crazy trying to find references for this. I have a killer ftp program set up for my companies web site. It works great on our default ftp server for the plotting dept (port 21). However, now I need to set it up for our new ftp server on port 18. I can get logged in to the server but almost everthing else generates a bad port error or something similar. Can I set up a Global port setting or is this a wasted effort? I can find no reference anywhere on the net (looked for 16 hours!). Am I the only person using PHP with two FTP servers behind the same firewall, mapped to two different ports, for job supmissions to two departments in the whole world? I must figure this one out, it is my new mission in life. But I'm ready to sleep again. PLEASE HELP! Thanks.
P.S. - Is this mayby the wrong approach? We've been using email but some of the jobs we get are over 10MB!

That's funny--I see (and presumably you already know) that ftp_connect() accepts an optional argument that specifies a different port, but I can't see any way to tell it that it's using a different data port. Maybe that shouldn't be necessary. But also, have you tried passive mode and see if that succeeds?

I've got ftp_connect set to port 18 (gets me logged on anyway) and I tried setting passive mode to on but I missed something somewhere in the settings and the script generates a failure. If I comment out pasv it runs fine except I can't list files or upload. Strange thing is, it works perfect on the default (21) FTP server. When I try an upload to (18) I get a port command error with ftp_put(blah blah blah). If I can get the syntax right on pasv that might help (it did with one of the ftp client programs). Of course I also just realized that I'm testing my scripts from the same workstation the ftp server is on (IIS for FTP on NT, and Apache/PHP localhost for testing). It works fine like that with CuteFTP but that could (I think) mayby cause a port conflict by trying to open a port to itself. I'll test that theory monday. Thanks for the feed back.
