Hi there y'all,

Question:
I am looking at creating a site that will hold a set of users and the amount of hits that their websites recieve for them. I have created the database and the display page and the count functions to do all this, but my question is... (I am new to this btw)

Is it possible to have something like an <include> on a third party website that talkes to a php page on my sever. The only way I can think of doing it would be to call a new php page by onload() and have the php code in that page and then kill the page after the funtion has been carried out.

Does anyone know of another way of counting the hits a non-php page recieves???

this isn't kosher (can we say webbug?) but you can have other web pages call yours and show a 1-pixel image. if the image is 1x1 pixel and transparent users won't see the image but the counter will increment everytime the image is loaded.

/ place the following on a remote servers html page /
<IMG SRC="http://counter.yourpage.com/count_my_page.php?user_id=1">

and then on your page:
###########count_my_page.php###########
<?
header( "Content-type: image/gif" );

readfile("/path/to/1pixel/gif/image");
#connect with the db
#update table with page_count++ where user_id = 1

?>

make sure the header is the first thing that is sent to the browser. if anything is sent before the header you will get errors.
