Some Sessoions Help Please!

Hi,
I am a beginner in PHP and using it for my project at school. I have been trying to registering session variables using the session_start( ) and session_register( ) but am getting the following error:
Warning: Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by (output started at <php file name>:2) in <php file name>.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You must set the session_start() before anything else. Without actually seeing your code I am guessing that you produce some form of output before calling the session_start(). Before anything else in the code (including the html) put a php section and put the session_start() and any session_register() lines you need.
That should sort it out for you.

it was the \n...
It now attempts to create a temporary file but fails says permission denied. Is this bcos of somethign I have to set in my environment ? I am using apache/linux.

The exact warning goes like this:
open(/tmp/sess_ba36efc47510024d4ed38995f46b03b5, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13).
