Users submitting twice!

I posted a question earlier about cookies - but it was because that was how i figured i would solve my fundamental problem which is the following.

I have users who fill in form data and click the submit button twice (I guess because some people think they have to double click on all buttons) some people are impatient and click it more than two times - i've seen someone click it 7 times.

My thought experiment would have been to set a cookie for a short period of time and in the processing form script recognize it was the same user and ignore multiple clicks.

I was wondering if any out there has any ideas how i would go about doing this?

here's a simple way of using javascript to stop people submiting twice. As with any client-side solution, the really determined can get around it, but if your main problem is accidental double-submitters, this will do the trick!

I haven't tried the latest version, but it certainly was compatible with previous versions, and with Opera too. 🙂

I found a solution in PHP when user click on the "Previous" or "Reload" button in the browser.

In the file you verify the fields and update the DB or send a mail, make a redirection with Header("location:url");

So if the user come back or reload the page, the browser will not ask to re-send the datas, and there is no second post :-)
