some help with next - prev records

hey, i want to have some next - previous buttons on a web page. what i have so far is a little something that adds 1 for next and subtracts 1 for previous then looks at the database and selects the record that has the same id number... this is all fine and good, untill i delete a record. then i will get non sequental id numbers and i get blanks.

so i was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what i could do to skip over the records that arent there. so if i have 3 records which id's are 1,4,6 then i want to go directly from 1 to 4, not 1 then 2 then 3 then 4..

does anyone know what i am talking about?

well, first off all you can select all the ids, and build an array with them..

then, you can link to +1 position and -1 position ..

First, I believe there is an article that covers this problem.

I did this by keeping track of the current list number and the total to list, and then (using MySQL) calls, used the LIMIT start, list limiter to grab each section as needed.

I used a form for the Next/Prev buttons, with a tag set that would tell the code to add or remove the

• amount to/from the [start] amount.

  Thus:
  SELECT * from TBL LIMIT 0, 10
  to get the first 10 records.

  The button has a label of 'next' with a value of '10'.

  The code called then checks the vars $next and $prev, finds $next = 10, so does
  $start += $next
  and thus creates the next SQL command
  SELECT * from TBL LIMIT 10, 10
