Server Side cookies

Some time ago (when I was even newer to PHP) I saw a heading for a script / forum / ? referring to Server Side cookies.

Interesting I thought, I'll come back to that. D'Oh, now I can't find it.

Can anyone point me to the right place?

I have a set of users who are prompted everytime a system sets a cookies so I don't want to hassle them and would rather do it server side.

My alternative is to have a MySql table called cookies (sessionid int(10), cookiename varchar(20), cookievalue varchar(20)) and run it through there as I only want the cookies to last the length of the session anyway. Or I could swap sessionid for userid...

But cookies would be cooler!

Not sure what you saw, but cookies are client-side storage. There really isn't any such thing as server-side cookies. OTOH, you may find that transparent sessions offer most of what you're wanting anyway.
