I'm trying to set up a shoping cart. I have a table in a mysql database named products. In it I have 4 fields; id,name, price & inStock. What do I have to do to subtract from the value in inStock? I have tried to pull in the value of inStock and subtract the qty. the user wants from it. When do, the value is set to - the qty. the user wants. I think when I pull in the value of inStock it is treated as a string instead of an integer. PLEASE HELP!!

that's one way to do it.

You're going to run into problems, however. What if you have multiple warehouses? What if you have a sale on a product? How can you tell what a specific person paid for a product?

I have inStock null set to yes. could that be the problem?

it might help to try setting the default value for inStock to 0 with nulls not allowed.

if this and tom's suggestion doesn't help, post a snippet of the code that you're using.
