I am a newbie to php (around 2 weeks) and I am doing a login for my clan web site. I thought that cookies were a bit.... Well, i heard about sessions and I started to see wether I could do them and well, I need help.
I am trying to uses a global file, funnily enough, it's call 'global.php' and i thought I could store stuff like there usernames so when i wanted to go to a different page i could store it in the session.
could somebody spend some time and show me what they would do.

p.s. Please tell me if i have totaly the wrong idea about sessions. Should I use cookies, and if i should, I would like to store the information they input when they login and i want to be able to span this information over the multiple pages. I want there usernames and real names, and possibly their passwords.
