Is there anyway to change the SMTP name without changing the php.ini? I am using PHP that is remotely hosted and don't have access to the ini. I do send mail from the site to whoever submits to a form but when mail gets sent - the "from" is listed as my host server -- instead of me. Is there any way to disguise the name or change it to reflect my site name?

or change your mail() function like so:

mail("[e-mail]", "the subject", "the message", "From: Mark <[e-mail]>");

Thanks that did the trick. Actually now, the mail() function seems dangerous because I could change the "From" headers to any email address to make it llok like it came from someone else.

for most emails, a trip to the email headers will give you an idea of where the email is from. most email servers (candesa.com does) require authenticating via POP/IMAP before they allow SMTP because of the security issues with an open smtp relay that can be used by spammers.
