MySQL FULLTEXT problem!

hello,
i've been having some trouble with this lately. i can't seem to use the alter table syntax to add a fulltext index. the sql im using is:
ALTER TABLE book ADD FULLTEXT title;

MySQL is saying:
ERROR 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax near '' at line 1

can ANYONE help me with this problem? i searched your page and noticed someone named Paul had the same problem but noone answered him! Is the only way to add a fulltext when creating a table? i can't make a new table..

please, please, please help if you know! i tried also on irc (every single *-net server) and noone answered.

For BLOB and TEXT columns, you must index a prefix of the column. You cannot index the entire column.

In MySQL Version 3.23.23 or later, you can create special FULLTEXT indexes. They are used for full-text search. Only the MyISAM table type supports FULLTEXT indexes. They can be created only from VARCHAR and TEXT columns. Indexing always happens over the entire column and partial indexing is not supported. See section 25.2 MySQL Full-text Search for details.

You need to add a FULLTEXT indexing KEY so the following should accomplish that:

ALTER TABLE book ADD FULLTEXT KEY title (title)
