PHP and parsing (YAPR)

Suppose I have the following flat file, with fields delimited with the "~" char :

You name~Your street~Your city~Your state~Your zipcode.

Now suppose I want to parse this file and extract (for whatever reason) only the 1st, 3rd, and 5th fields, e.g. :

Your name, Your city, You zipcode.

What is the easiest way to do this in PHP?

Just thot I'd ask before going off and writing another YAPR ("Yet Another Parsing Routine") :-)

Read the line, then use explode on ~, then access the resulting array.

Sorry, but I can't find this function or construction in the PHP documentation.

Is this perhaps a Perl function?

It falls under the Strings section of the manual. You can also look up split() while you are there.

i think split uses a regular expression, which would be slower than split. im not 100% sure on that tho...
