Braces or tag?

This is more of just a curiousity thing, before today I didn't really pay any attention to what I was using, then noticed this "tools" thing in PHP Coder, which said insert php braces, or php tag

PHP braces = <? ?>
PHP tag = <?php ?>

Whats the difference, if any?

AFAIK, the tag version will work on any version of php while the brace version may not on older configurations. Personally, I never us the tag version. It's never been a problem.
