Accessing Active Directory

Is there a way to get for example the username of a person logged in with Active Directory using PHP?

It should be possible to access Active Directory by using the LDAP functions included in PHP and connecting to the DC.
I am not sure how the passwords are encrypted in Active Directory and not sure if you can make use of them, but it is probably possible if you find out which encryption algorithm is used.

Do you mean authenticated via the web using IIS? If so, just use $REMOTE_USER, right?

AD is just a repository of account information (e.g., users, groups, etc.) and doesn't map to a browser's connection to an IIS web server.

Use the LDAP extension if you need to retrieve info out of AD. It's very simple to use and quote fast under NT/2K.

We are in the process of researching integration of PHP/Linux using remote active directory server for auth, for customer who needs to use AD for all their user accounts.

Do you maybe have some example code or resources that might help.
