Database access without DSN

Anybody knows how to access the data base without making a DSN entry first?
I use Windows 2000 server but so far all solution that I saw either use FrontPage or require creating System DSN first before accessing the database from ASP. Anybody can help?

I believe this is the wrong place to be asking about ASP but as far as PHP goes it can be done.
