QueryString problem !!!

can anyone please tell me what's wrong with this code ..

if (empty($id)) {
$id = 1;
}

$nx = $id +1 ;

echo "$id <br>";
echo "<a href=$PHP_SELF?id=$nx>click</a>";

?>

the output every time is 1 .. it excecutes $id=1 every time no matter what the querystring contains !!!

can any body help me ?!

try:

if (!isset($id)) {
$id = 1;

if it still fails check the global vars and see if the variable $id is in the GET vars.

Try doing some experimentation, e.g.,...

echo "<a href=".$PHP_SELF."?id=".$nx.">click</a>';

echo "<a href=".$PHP_SELF."?id=".$nx+2.">click</a>';

$ny = $i + 100;
echo "<a href=".$PHP_SELF."?id=".$ny.">click</a>';

yes, the variable $id is in the GET vars with the correct value .. i checked it , and it still fails !!

i did all those experiments and it still fails !!
$id takes the correct value in the querystring and it's in the GET vars array .. but it still prints id=1 !!!
