Adding HTML

I have text stored in a database (type text) and I need to substitute/include html. I have to beleive that this is so common that there is a php function built and tested for this kind of thing. Some examples of what I need to accomplish follow.

"\n" needs to become "\n<P>"

www.somewhere.com needs to become <a href"http://www.somewhere.com">www.somewhere.com</a>

[e-mail] needs to become
<a href"mailto:[e-mail]">[e-mail]</a>

Running your text through nl2br() will convert all \n to <BR>

Most people use regexps to accomplish more complex things like the auto link genreation. Check the manuals preg and ereg functions and search this forum. You should come up with enough to make it work.
