Hi,

does anybody know, how to write the following script:

i want to prove a variable and if the string in this variable has an a, h, l ,f ,ö, ä,or an % or is shorter than 3 letters , there should be a message like: echo "sorry, wrong name!";

something like :

(preg_match("/a|h|l|f|ö|ä|\%/i",$var) ||

(strlen($var)>3)) && (PRINT "sorry ...");

should fit...
I did not test the code, so there may be syntax errors in it ...

don't you mean

if (preg_match("/a|h|l|f|ö|ä|\%/i",$var) || (strlen($var)<3))
{
PRINT "sorry ...";
};

the if clause isn't nessesary in that case...
cause IMHO the print statement is evaluate if the first condition returns TRUE...

My point was more about the strlen()>3 versus strlen()<3

The rest is correct, but very advanced (read: not easy to understand for a 'newbie')
