Removing character from txt file

Okay, first off, I have just started to learn PHP/MySQl, and have to say that the contributors to this forum are excellent. I have found all the answers to my questions.
Anyway, what I wanted to now is:
I have saved an excel file as a csv. The problem is, some pieces of information contain quotes, which i don't want when entering the file into mySQl. any ideas on how to remove all the quotes?

str_replace("\"", "", $string);

That'll remove all of the quotes. Ofcourse if your file is csv, then you might have a problem with new commas comming into play when you remove the quotes. It'd be better if you could use a different delimiter when you unload your file from excel.
