Creating Dir

Hi All

I using this code to create a dir on the fly

if (mkdir("mydir/$co_name", 755));

But I keep getting this error

Warning: MkDir failed (Permission denied) in /home/WWW2/sitename.com/htdocs/register.php3 on line 123

I set the permissions to read write exe (755) and even tryed (0700) with no success

Can any one help or leave me in the right direction I all ready tryed www.php.net

The web server does not have permission to create the directory. You need to modify the permissions of the parent directory:

/home/WWW2/sitename.com/htdocs

to be able to do this.

you can either

a) set the perms for the directory in which you wish to make yr directory to 777 (a bad idea)

b) write a script that is setuid to an account with the perms required and is 777 itself and call that. ie,

-rwsrwxrwx root wheel make-a-dir.pl

and call that with

system("make-a-dir $dirname🙂;

or similar... this is more secure (since it only potentially compormises the creation of direcotries, not the removal and modification of files like you get with chmod 777)
