How to handle special characters like Ü,

I am passing company name entered by the user on our site to a system command. But whenever a user enter's some special char like Ü or É then the command fails. I want to know how to handle these character's while passing them to a system command.

I am using Exec() of php. any help is appreciated.

You might want to try removing any non-letter/number characters before passing it to the system command. Generally system commands don't like special characters.

$company_name = ereg_replace("[^a-zA-Z0-9 ]", $company_name);

Would take out any non-letter/number characters and only allow single spaces.

Some of our clients are from europe and they enter company name with the special character's. That's why I can't replace those character's.
