Can some one tell me how to use php to send mail on an smtp server that requires a password?

Other than pointing you in the right direction, I'm afraid I won't be much help here...

PHP has support for SMTP connections, and it's done somewhat like database connections. either pick up a book on php and look in there, or go to www.php.net and look up the documentation on that.
