Clean this up before putting in databae

Hey, I have a big problem, members to my site can insert articles, they get stored in my mysql database. However I just found that if the member puts a apostrephy in their articles, mysql gets upset and brings back an error, I already tried addslashes, that catches most of those characters but not apostrephys, what do I do?? Thanx!

addslashes() does treats appostrphys. but PHP by default adds the slashes to any data being POST'ed. so you dont need to do addslashes()

may be the problem is something else.
