form validation

I would like to do some php control to the dates that visitor put into my site form. I have saved the page with php suffix,the methot is:<form METHOD="POST" ACTION="http://server name/cgi-bin/cgiemail/account name/form2.txt">
but if I put some IF statement inside the the form the php control dont' work.
Can you tell me some to go on?

Your validation needs to be in the page that your form calls. HTML is a static environment which means that what the user sees on the screen isn't running anywhere it's just a formatted text page. Once the user submits the form then the action script starts working and it can do validation. If you want validation on the users machine then you are going to have to look at JavaScript to do the work for you.
