Sessions

Hey! 🙂

I have a header.php file. index.php in the root includes this file (and also a footer file at the end). Anyway, at the top of header.php I have this....

session_start();
?>

I have a file called check.php that verifies usernames and password. If the username and password are correct, a query takes that users ID from the DB and then does this...

session_register("ID");

But now on every page I have an error on line 2 of header.php that says this.....

Warning: open(/tmp/sess_36ac63c01ea2cdf7becbd3384557ac56, O_RDWR) failed: m (2) in /home/stereo/shared/header.php on line 2

Iv'e never seen that error before. Can someone please help me?

Sorry, I just found another two errors that are at the bottom of every page.....

Warning: open(/tmp/sess_36ac63c01ea2cdf7becbd3384557ac56, O_RDWR) failed: m (2) in [no active file] on line 0

Warning: Failed to write session data. Please check that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in [no active file] on line 0

I was just playing around with sessions myself.

This is from the 'php Bible' (their name, not mine)

"If sessions are not working or are giving errors, check the pathname returned by session_save_path(), and make sure that it exists and is php writable. If not, you should either make it be so or change the value of 'session.save_path' in php.ini" p. 461

Don't know what it means, but it sound applicable to your situation.

re checking your php.ini file would be better i guess.

just create the folder "tmp" on the root of the drive where your php is running...

wow! thanks alot for the great insight! I have been spending far too much time trying to figure this out!
