Thumbnails with GD, but without jpglib

Hi,
I'm using a commercial server with the GD library installed. I want to generate thumbnails from jpg-images on-the-fly, but the server does not support jpg-Files, because the jpglib is not installed.
Is there any way to manage this without the jpglib?
I would be very happy, if you'd help me!

Sure, just use an external program like imagemagic.

How can install Imagemagick on a commercial server? I only have ftp access.
Can somebody help me out?
