Deleting file - again

Hi!
I simply want to delete a file, and I'm getting troubles... I did the simplest unlink($file), and got...

Warning: Unlink failed (Operation not permitted) in /var/www/html/prova.php on line 51

Now; the directory in wich the file is placed is chmod 1777-ed; the file, also; they're both owned/grouped by root; the file exist, and I provided the full path to it (linux-style, I'm using Linux).
I cannot figure out anything else... may you give me a help? I've got PHP4.0.5, and apache.

First question is, 'Who is your webserver running as?' If it's running as nobody, you can't do it. You don't own the file. The server can do whatever it wants, except remove it. You can check this out by trying to delete the file as any user other than root. You should get the same error.
