Case-sensetive MySQL Query

I have SELECT * FOM table WHERE username = '$username' AND password = '$password'

How can I make the password case sensetive?

That sounded like a nasty remark. I tried the manual, and it said something about using INDEX for case sensetive searches, and I didn't understand what it meant, so I thought maybe someone could just post a quick example.
