`Persistent' variables?

Is there a way to make a variable's value to be maintained trough different instances of php? Just like it would saving in a file and then restoring at next run, I mean - but without access to the filesystem, if possible...

I am trying to do that as well.

I came up with this stupid thing. You can try passing those variables to the next instance. And use them to create values just don't show those values, then you pass those values with the new ones you will get from the new instance.

I don't know if you got what i meant. :p

Also i am not sure if this is the best way to do it. Haven't tried it myself but i will
and i think it works. In theory it should. Any prof guys out there, care to give a hand?

No, that's not what I mean... I mean, different users, too...
Think about a counter: I want that any access increments a variable, and the next access from another user continue to increment it... with sessions, I could have it incremented only on a single user's PC... that's not what I mean.
I guess I'll have to write it in a file, for this... :-/

Unfortunately, I can't do this, when the instances aren't loaded one from another... I mean, if a user connect and set a variable, I want it to be set also for other users' connections, later on...
I did this with a file: I store the variable in the file, and read it from there at the beginning of my app. I just tought there was a way to do it automagically, as in java servlet, for instance; but I guess there isn't.
