I'd like to build a web-based system which would become a (very basic) accounting system in which one can enter all information off the sale and the programm would need to automatically make an invoice.

The invoice is the problem I am facing. I can't find a way to create a document which could be printed easily on every printer?

Is it possible to change MS Word documents with PHP or what would you do ?

you could probably use COM functions to modify Word documents.

if the page format doesn't have to be exact, you could have a web page that has simplified invoices (black/white colors, no complicated graphics, use tables to keep everything on one page). this way you could let the user print from their web brower.

you could also generate pdf files, this might be your best choice... its cross platform compatible, doesnt tie you to ms, and when you print you wont have the url at the top and bottom of every page.
