Javascript and PHP Arrays...

Greetings,

I've got a group of checkboxes that I'm treating as an array in PHP. I need a Javascript to check and uncheck them all (fairly straight-forward, ordinarily), but the brackets in the variable name are futzing up the javascript.

I came across this problem the other day, what you need to do is reference the checkboxes using:

elements['listing[]',0]
elements['listing[]',1]
elements['listing[]',2]
etc...

The way I handled it eventually was to access the form elements of the entire form, looking for the checkboxes and checking them.

for (i=0;i<form.documents[0].elements.length;i++) {

if (form.documents[0].elements.type == 'checkbox') {
//check the box code, or whatever, goes here...
}

}

For whatever reason, I couldn't get the actual name of the element (elements['listing[]',0])in question to work properly in my case, as Mike had described....

I have had partial success using this method - but I'm running into an issue with the checkbox elements being checked, even though they use a different name.

I have elements['department[]',i] and elements['office[]',i] in 2 different functions. They are both checked or not, based on a master checkbox, one for department only, for all departments and offices.

If I check the deparment-only, it checks everything - departments and offices.

Any suggestions? Is the first part of the elements variable not sufficient to discriminate between the two?

In my experience, using the name as a reference to the elements array fails when it is used inside a FOR loop of any kind.

Instead, what I've had to fall back on is something like this:

for (i=0;i<form.documents[0].elements.length;i++) {
if (form.documents[0].elements.type == 'checkbox') {
// From inside, you can reference documents[0].elements.name or .value to verify the item is actually part of department[] or office[], and check/uncheck it if so...

}
